Identification of invertebrate sample collecting sites at four locations, Hodbarrow Lagoons, Haverigg Dunes, Sandscale Haws and North Walney. Six collecting sites at each location, all grid referenced and photographed.
At each location and within a 20m radius the following standard collection techniques were used grubbing, Suction sampling and sweep netting. All methods followed Natural England guidelines creating standardised repeatable protocols.
Outcome of study, 306 species of insects in the target groups were identified to species level from 1800 individual records. Findings indicated that all four locations provide favourable habitats for invertebrates requiring short sward habitats and that Sandscale, North Walney and Haverigg are in favourable condition for the Specific Assemblage Type, Bare Sand and Chalk.
The study also determined that there was limited suitable habitat available for the introduction / reintroduction of the Northern Dune Tiger Beetle.
