EMEC is pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Melluish as our newest Land Management Operative.
With a strong academic background and extensive experience in ecological land management, Mike brings a valuable blend of knowledge and hands-on expertise to the EMEC team.
He holds a Foundation Degree in Countryside Management from Harper Adams University and an Extended Diploma in Countryside Management from Brooksby Melton College. His qualifications also include a variety of machinery certifications, including excavator and dumper truck operation, chainsaw and tree felling, chipper use, CAT scanner, tractor driving, and off-road lift truck operation using Avant machines.
Before joining EMEC, Mike worked across a variety of land-based sectors. Most recently, he was involved in environmental mitigation and ecological land management with another East Midlands based environmental consultancy, where he helped deliver projects such as newt and reptile fencing, badger sett creation and closure, habitat translocation, and large-scale tree planting.
Mike has also gained experience working on private estates such as the Kedleston Estate and Whatton House and Gardens, where his responsibilities included fencing, woodland management, firewood production, and supporting formal gardens. During a placement with Rushcliffe Country Park, he assisted the ranger team with hedge laying, wildlife education, woodland work, and park maintenance.
In his new role at EMEC, Mike will support the delivery of a wide variety of land management projects, including wetland restoration, pond and river work, woodland creation, and conservation-based mitigation schemes.
Commenting on his appointment, Mike said “I’d heard of EMEC before and was drawn to the opportunity to be part of a team that works on meaningful, conservation-focused projects. The role offers a great mix of familiar and new experiences, and I’m looking forward to developing my skills further and contributing to the positive impact EMEC has on the environment.”
Dr Ed Tripp, Consultancy Director at EMEC, added “We’re delighted to welcome Mike to the Land Management team. His diverse background, practical skill set and clear passion for the countryside and conservation make him a fantastic addition. As EMEC continues to expand its land management capabilities, Mike’s experience and enthusiasm will play an important role in helping us deliver high-quality, sustainable outcomes for our clients and the environment.”
Outside of work, Mike enjoys exploring the countryside on foot and is a big fan of classic rock music, listing bands such as Led Zeppelin, Guns N’ Roses, AC/DC and Black Sabbath among his favourites.
